Hey 38!! The coming year my focus is joy ✨ In the Hebrew calendar my birthday falls in Adar. This year the two calendars shared a rare alignment and so yesterday I had my birthday across both. This feels particularly meaningful because of all the things I learned this year, I’m reminded that the most significant lesson was found in Adar. You see every Jewish month has a significance. For Adar, it’s all about joy. And after some deeply sad and challenging days a few weeks ago ? the calendar turned and we were given Adar. Not simply a reminder of the importance of joy, but a reminder of our obligation to experience it. Rabbi Sacks reminds us that “joy is not a denial of pain, but the ability to hold onto hope even in the midst of suffering.” There’s something freeing about obligations. And the obligation to experience joy is the most freeing one of all. Thanks to everyone who made this year so meaningful. To mum for being here. And to James who makes every day my favourite day. Facilitating moments of connection; this is always the goal. In 2020 when the world shut down I was walking across the third street promenade in Santa Monica, dreaming up an opportunity for something I so deeply missed - moving together again. Four and a half years later, the best humans at @lululemon @motion_la and @dtsantamonica came together to finally make it happen ? Although so much time has passed since the initial idea, connecting in community is *always* a necessary and beautiful thing. And- importantly- quite often the moment we think of something is different from the moment we’re able to do something about it. On Saturday I talked about seasons in life. How spring is different to summer; how the moment of planting is different to the moment of bearing fruit; how our lives energetically move through similar seasons; and, how all too often we can feel like our lives should be all summer, all productivity, all achievement. The truth is, summer isn’t possible without the darkness of winter, the hope of spring, the shedding of autumn. Similarly we cannot produce without the moments of quiet introspection, of hard work, and of letting go. And we get to truly experience the richness of life when we allow ourselves to exist within the season we find ourselves - not always loving it, but always trusting it’s a necessary and meaningful part of our journey. I’m grateful for the people who were able to turn this seed into fruit; for the years of moving through the world making aligned choices and bringing in aligned connections. For me, summer doesn’t mean much without the people we get to relish in it with.
