Happy Labor Day! It’s been a week back in Cali, and what a good week it’s been! The jet lag back was easy as expected: we woke up at 5am the first few days (instead of our usual 6-6:30), which actually worked out perfectly since school started right away. The kids slipped back into routine without stress, and the shorter first week (just three half days) made the transition even smoother. They’re already obsessed with their new teachers and thrilled to be back with friends ?? I’m back into my own rhythm too: school drop-off followed by a gym session. Taking Valentina to the kids club now that she’s older has been a total game changer for my freedom, and she’s been totally fine. I keep my workouts short but effective (just 30 minutes), which makes it an easy goal for her to be happy throughout. Most of my energy this first week went toward resetting the house after our trip, so I didn’t work much, but now that we’re settled, I’m excited to ease back into more work projects during school hours and around V’s naps. To top it all off, this long holiday weekend has been filled with sunshine, beach time, and good friends ☀️ Feeling really excited for September full of routine, new after-school activities, local playdates, and plenty of summer weekends ? What made our 13h daytime flight with 3 kids go smoothly?? ✔️ The premium cabin: extra space (a lifesaver with a lap baby), footrest = perfect for breastfeeding, fewer people = fewer wake-ups. Blankets + pillows provided, so you can pack lighter ✔️ On-board WiFi: parents best friend during naps: work, messages, or just entertainment beyond TV ✔️ Sitting together: this time we were 3+1 (instead of 2+2). I preferred having my husband right by me, even across the aisle, since he could help more with the baby ✔️ @flywithlevel pre-selected meals: everyone got food they liked, plus the on board menu variety, endless entertainment/games, and genuinely friendly staff ✔️ Kids’ tablets (no WiFi needed), loaded with their favorite educational + game apps ✔️ Proper kids’ headsets (so no slipping earbuds) + spill-proof water bottles ✔️ Inflatable bed: my 5yo napped like a champ thanks to it. Would you move back? Is a FAQ I get all the time. Here’s the thing: I absolutely love Spain. I love coming back every summer, reconnecting with everyone, and giving my kids the chance to experience the culture, traditions, and memories that shaped my own childhood summers. But as much as I treasure all of that, I don’t see myself or my family living here full-time. And many people in the US don’t understand that, especially now because everyone is burned off. But guess what? People from Spain are burned too. You see, it’s easy for everyone to think the grass is always greener on the other side. But it’s not. The grass is truly greener where you water it. And everyone has different needs & opportunities in different places. I’ve lived nearly the same amount of years in both places (20 in Spain and 17 in the US, including two childhood years there), which gives me a pretty unique perspective on what life is like in both countries across many stages of life. Of course, echa place has its pros and cons. But for many reasons, right now, Spain simply isn’t the right fit for us. That said, I’m always open to changes. And different life stages bring different needs, and who knows what the future holds. But for now, home is Southern California. Our community, our entrepreneurial freedom, our opportunities for growth, the flexible lifestyle we crave, and the life we’ve worked hard to build. And every year, we’ll keep returning for these unforgettable Mediterranean summers full of culture, family and friends☀️? Valentina turned 8 months in Spain! This little lady is definitely my social butterfly, this trip to my home town has proven that she’s as friendly as can be, even at the some times socially tough age she’s in, when stranger danger typically peeks (6 to 9 months old) she’s totally fine hanging with all of my family and friends (third kid vibes). Which has made the trip so much easier as we’re constantly meeting with new people! She’s suddenly been eating so much! She went from a few bites per meal last month to a full meal x3 a day now, plus some snacks. And she’s also finger food grasping with little bites (plus her usual puree and bigger hand holding bites). And of course, shes still going strong with milk, as she should. As for new big motor skills, she’s rocking on her hands and knees and scooting (It’s honestly helpful that she’s not an early crawler, since nothing here is baby-proof ?). She’s also starting to love standing and holding weight on her legs when supported. She continues to master her chatting skills and clearly understands us when we call her name or say “no.” Here in Spain, she’s started napping on her own for one of her three naps (usually the long one). I lay with her until she falls asleep, then walk away and keep the door open so I can see her while I cook, eat, or work midday. The other naps are usually on-the-go, in the stroller or carrier. Our schedule is a little off right now with the time change and vacation life, but here’s an example of her current rhythm: 10am wake 1030am meal1 130pm milk 2pm nap1 independent 4pm wake 430pm meal2 530pm milk 6pm nap3 630pm wake 7pm snack 830pm nap3 9pm wake 930pm meal3 1030pm milk 11pm bedtime She loooooves the beach, the water, swings, her siblings, and she’s playing so well on her own now, it’s absolutely adorable to watch how she entertains herself for long? We baptized Valentina in my beloved beach town, Sitges ?️ The ceremony was led by Antonio, our family priest, who also baptized the big kids, my brother and I, and married my whole family. Valen’s godparents were my cousins and sister-in-law ? And she was such a little angel, she didn’t cry or fuss once, though my grandma did walk her around a bit to keep her entertained. Afterwards, we celebrated with a cozy merienda at a café just next door. It was truly the perfect evening and once-in-a-lifetime memories. I love having a baby during the summer ☀️? especially when it hits right in the 6-9 month sweet spot. They can sit unassisted and play, they get distracted with any random item like sunscreens, and there’s no chasing around yet. Plus you know the busier stage is coming, which is exciting because it’s also so fun, but you savor that relaxation even more ? Exactly 15 years ago today a 22 year old me traveled to LA with zero expectations leaving Spain behind. I had no idea that that trip was going to change my entire life. 15 years later, here I am, back in my home town with a life I couldn’t have even imagined in my wildest dreams. A wish I had, but never thought was even possible to accomplish. THREE kids, a hardworking hands-on husband, a travel heavy lifestyle, remote flexible work that allows me to be with my family full time, and that fulfills my soul while helps others accomplish their best mom lives too. A true dream. MY dream. And in the middle of this chaotic magical life I have to remember to stop and thank my younger self for believing in herself, for never giving up, for getting up every time she failed, for all the sleepless nights, for all the scarifies, and for not letting anyone kill her spark through the process. Because every step she took, made it possible today. So here’s your reminder to stop and see how far you’ve come. Look at the things you may take for granted today, the very things your past self once prayed for. She’d be so proud of you. Be proud of her too ?
