Every boy reaches a pivotal moment in life — the realization of responsibilities, the realities of life, the isolation, and the heavy weight of the world on his shoulders that force him to become a man. For me, this moment came at 14, for many others it happens much, much sooner. With nearly 800,000 suicides every year, and 75% of them being men — addressing men's mental health isn't important anymore, it's urgent. As creatures that learn better from experience, here are a few things I learnt the hard way in my 20s that define my beliefs and boundaries today: 1. Discipline is self-love disguised as discomfort: Show up on the worst days — those are the days that shape everything. 2. Rejection Isn't a Reflection of Your Worth: Whether it's a job interview or a relationship, work on yourself until you rewrite the narrative. 3. Your Journey is Yours Alone: Avoid comparison. Embrace your unique pace and trust your individual path. 4. Stop Overinvesting in People Who Undervalue You: Learn to say no - stop doing unnecessary favors and showing up with flowers until it's earned. 5. Actions Over Words, Always: Intentions matter. Trust your gut, don't buy into false promises or give second chances without a meaningful apology. 6. Pause Before You React: Give yourself space to think clearly, assess your situation, and act with intent and purpose. 7. You are not responsible for being understood by everyone: People won’t always get your ambition or silence. Let go of the need to explain. 8. Sleep, sunlight, and solitude fix more than venting: If opening up and sharing doesn't feel comfortable yet, build a system that doesn’t rely on it.
