Chada, Katavi, in Western Tanzania has to be one of our favourite Nomad camps. We describe it as the last frontier of true safari. Why do we love it so much? It’s away from the crowds, the wildlife is incredible, the camp is small and quiet and simply beautiful and elephants are there to greet you as you wake. We are just the quiet observers. Only last week we received a report saying; Katavi is pumping, it’s been the most extraordinary morning out on game drive: big herds of buffalo with accompanying egrets in every direction, elephants everywhere, big herds of giraffe and birds, birds, birds of every shape and size. Yesterday at Tarangire National Park, guests on a game drive with Nomad guide extraordinaire, @ally.kea spotted this old male buffalo. He was just having a little wallow in the mud, and mixing it up so that the consistency is like porridge before flicking it onto his back with his head and horns. The mud not only keeps him cool but the mud acts as a natural sun block. Isn’t nature brilliant and so mesmerising to watch. ?? ? As it’s #worldchimpanzeeday today, of course we are going to share with you some fantastic videos from the habituated Mahale Chimps known as M group. A team of Japanese researchers have worked in the Mahale mountains studying the chimps for over 50 years, and our guides and their families have played a part in their work for decades. All of our Greystoke camp guides have had a member of their family involved with the chimps since they were young, and they gladly followed in their footsteps. There is nothing our guides don’t know about the characters, politics and intricacies of this fascinating community and they bring it to life with an extraordinary passion.
