We know that inflammation can cause IBS ... We know that some foods can cause inflammation .... It's not such a bad thing to be stuck at home when you have IBS... you're close to your bathroom, you can wear baggy clothes, you can lay down and curl up into a ball if needed... but what about when you want to make plans? If you're eager to see friends, go to a restaurant, or get out of town--all of those things are going to make you more uncomfortable. Having to wear jeans? Run to an unfamiliar toilet? Change up your eating routine... If that's enough to make you cringe, it's a good sign to start making changes NOW. What if your bowel movements were normal by summer time? 🩳 What if you could make plans, AND feel great during and after them? I've just gotta get this out there because I'm blown away! (I love what I do, can you tell?) The ONE thing I look for in every client I work with is their symptom reduction. Every few weeks, we score all of their symptoms to gauge how well we are doing... I just love reviewing these! This one client today showed me how she feels 80% better after just a few weeks. This means she no longer wakes up with cramping and pain. Has more than enough energy to go to the gym, work, and night school. And because of this, also has a lot less stress and even better sleep. Did you know that the keto diet has been used for IBS? By taking out almost all carbohydrates from the diet, it can make it easier to digest certain foods! Cool huh? The not so cool part...did you know that a high fat diet can exacerbate IBS symptoms? So can a high protein diet (more Atkin's-like). Also, a long-term keto diet can decrease the amount of healthy plants in your diet--you know, all of those plants which have cancer-fighting properties? Psst! As your dietitian friend, I urge you to consider what the long-term game plan looks like for any diet, and how it will nourish you down the road. *Don’t use my IBS program* It might seem a bit crazy, but when new IBSers ask me for advise, I say this... Don't use my IBS program...yet. There are lots of options out there for helping IBS symptoms, some of them being easy and inexpensive. Others are more time consuming or just downright confusing. You might take some time following the guidance from a friend, medical professional, or even an online influencer. This whole process of trial and error helps you realize exactly what you're looking for--something concrete to follow! Something that actually gives you results. Something you can adapt to your lifestyle. If you've had trials and errors, theres a great chance we will have some good things to chat about! If that's you, I'd love to hear more! Read this before starting a Low FODMAP diet.... I used to use the low FODMAP diet as a first-line approach in managing IBS symptoms such as gas, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. But then I stopped, and I’ll tell you why. A low FODMAP diet can initially be helpful if you have difficulty digesting certain carbohydrates. The down side: a low FODMAP diet doesn’t heal your body. It focuses on removing foods which cause symptoms. But then what? You will likely have to keep those foods out of your diet to continue keeping those symptoms at bay. What if there were a diet that could get rid of your symptoms and actually support your body in healing itself?
