The exterior of the Naples Street House is wrapped seamlessly in brick cladding that extends over the roof and into the central courtyard. “This singular material presents the house as a solid entity, formally mimicking the low-slung pitched roof forms of the original neighbourhood,” says Kim Bridgland, director of Edition Office. The longevity of the carbon-neutral bricks contributes to the project’s small carbon footprint, and the hardwood plywood lining the walls within is sustainably and locally sourced. At Wanaka S.K.I. House, Roberts Gray Architects have shaped a home that responds to both place and season. A two-storey masonry structure houses the main bedroom and a private retreat, while ground-level guest suites open to secluded courtyards. The open plan living, dining, and kitchen area is positioned to engage with the landscape. Through a careful interplay of voids, masses, and apertures, the design directs movement through the home, framing the most spectacular aspects of its alpine surroundings. In Plumeria Courtyard House, architects K2LD create a timeless urban sanctuary using Fisher & Paykel’s Integrated collection. Located on a tightly contained site in one of the Good Class Bungalow (GCB) prime residential districts, the house maintains privacy and sanctuary through selectively framed views that conceal its outlook and draw the gaze inwards. As with many elite residences in Singapore, the house has two kitchens. The dry kitchen sets a luxurious stage for entertaining. Fisher & Paykel products are seamlessly integrated into cabinetry, contributing to a subtle, timeless, and minimal aesthetic. The wet kitchen is placed away from living areas to maintain a tranquil environment.
